The importance of software is increasing

Recent market trends
Today, we hosted a presentation with Pricer’s CEO Helena Holmgren at our event - ABGSC Investor Days. The presentation largely addressed recent market trends, for instance digitalisation amongst retailers. As an example, Pricer referred to a McKinsey report from May 2019, which suggested that if retailers do not implement automated systems, they will fall behind their competitors. Furthermore, on the back of the gradually increasing e-commerce traction, customers now have higher demands with regards to their shopping experience when they are entering physical stores. In order to address this shift, retailers demand ESL (Electronic Shelf Labels) solutions; e.g. data collection through devises, dynamic product positioning and price automation.

The benefits of using IR versus radio
Pricer also emphasised the fact that it has a unique technical solution (IR) while its competitor are using radio. This is an element that we have elaborated on in our previous reports, where the main benefits of using IR are: 1) reliability (labels using radio have an unpredictable lifespan); 2) it is interference-free (radio signals are subjected to a higher degree of interference); and 3) the signals are able to generate higher speed and capacity. The cons that we have identified mainly relate to the cost of implementing the systems, in addition to the labels not being applicable in some areas (e.g. outside of a building).

Activity in North American market continues to increase
Pricer continues to see high levels of activity in the North American market, which is a market that has recently flourished in conjunction with the introduction of graphical labels.
