A solid play on electrification and energy efficiency
The core of Cavotec’s operations revolve around industrial electrification. The MoorMaster automated mooring system allows for substantial reductions in time and fuel consumption when mooring large vessels. For comparison, a large container vessel can dock in less than 60 seconds using a MoorMaster compared to 45-60 minutes using manual operations. In addition, the company’s electric shore-to-ship power solutions are well positioned to benefit from IMO 2020 and ports imposing requirements that ships need to use shore power instead of running on their own diesel engines. Cavotec’s motorised cable reels also stand to gain from the ongoing electrification trend within mining equipment, facilitating the conversion from diesel-driven machines. Within airports, the company’s in-ground solutions for fuel, air and water reduce the emissions by aircraft’s auxiliary power units (APUs) as well as the use of mobile support vehicles.
Main focus has been on operations, no ESG targets as of yet
Cavotec is undergoing a major transformation and restructuring efforts in order to achieve, for example, better internal processes, inventory management and a leaner footprint. Therefore, we believe formalised sustainability targets have not been the main focus due to the substantial efforts going into transforming the company, which would also explain the current lack of quantifiable ESG data. Nevertheless, the company’s Code of Conduct is based on the UN Global Compact and Cavotec’s sustainability efforts are currently focused on reducing environmental impact, business ethics, supply chain and corruption.
