KWS and Wyld Networks announce partnership to pilot satellite IoT in agriculture (Cision)

2021-09-07 11:04
Wyld Networks today announce a partnership with KWS, a leading seed specialist, to pilot a solution enabling remote agricultural sensor connectivity within KWS’s research environments.

KWS is a leading seed specialist providing innovative solutions for farmers around the globe.  A diverse and thriving portfolio of varieties developed using innovative breeding methods enables a significant reduction of inputs while safeguarding stable and high yields, therefore contributing to more sustainable farming and world nutrition. Accurate, relevant, granular data is key to understanding best practice and developing products farmers need to deliver on the ambitious targets required to meet global food demand and population growth.

Critical data is difficult to gather without investing in expensive site visits or terrestrial network hardware. Wyld’s low-cost sensor-to-satellite offering helps reduce hardware and data costs whilst ensuring improved operational efficiency in crop agriculture.

The solution aims to connect sensors measuring soil moisture, temperature and humidity. Better data leads to better management of resources and assets and helps meet environmental and sustainability targets.

Wyld Networks and KWS will pilot Wyld Connect to evaluate the solution to collect sensor data from remote IoT assets in areas with no available cellular connectivity.

Wyld Connect is a sensor to satellite IoT technology developed by Wyld Networks as a cost-effective solution to global data capture challenges.

“Wyld’s pioneering satellite IoT connectivity solutions meet KWS’s requirement for a low power, infrastructure-lite IoT solution,” says Sebastian Rudolph, Geospatial Analyst at KWS. “We are looking forward to our partnership with Wyld Networks to development and deploy solutions in our research environments.”

“Wyld have solved the key issues of low power and low data costs opening up new possibilities for more detailed data capture - essential for a sector looking to deliver efficiency and sustainability in remote and challenging environments,” said Alastair Williamson, CEO of Wyld Networks. “We are delighted to be working on this new project with KWS to pilot satellite IoT and look forward to a successful ongoing commercial partnership with one of the world’s leading seed companies.”
