Addtech’s major challenge is its decentralised business model, leaving much of its direct ESG exposure in the hands of its >130 subsidiaries. Active monitoring, evaluation and intervention (when needed) regarding both subsidiaries and suppliers is instrumental to ensure sustainable development throughout the value chain. The majority of Addtech’s production takes place at the supplier, making the company’s direct use of raw materials, chemicals, greenhouse gas emissions, etc. fairly limited. Addtech develops several products and solutions that enable customers to reduce their environmental impact. By venturing into areas such as renewable energy, emission reduction, automation, etc., Addtech not only accommodates clients’ ESG concerns, but also provides structural growth opportunities for itself.
ESG activities
The company splits its sustainability initiatives into three categories: economic, social and environmental. Economically, a focus on sustainability provides a competitive advantage as well as helping to ensure sustainable growth in the future. The social focus is largely related to the employees across the group, ensuring both their health and safety, while personal development is key to Addtech’s decentralised business model. One successful tool is the “Addtech Academy”, working to train, develop and motivate employees. In ’17/’18, 96% of the company’s employees had permanent contracts, and absence due to illness was only 2%. Environmentally, the main impact is carbon dioxide emissions. The company is actively working on reducing emissions and energy consumption.
